1976
- Aug 28 ( 2:00 PM ) : The Korean Archaeology Research Society, the forerunner of the current Society, is founded at the Opening Meeting which takes place at the Korea University Museum and is attended by 38 respected members of the discipline, including the late Professor Kim Won Yong. The aim of the society is established as contributing to the people, culture, society, and nation through archaeological research'. Members decide to promote these aims through the following initiatives: the publication of a journal, the hosting of conferences and the undertaking of joint archaeological investigations. The late Professor Kim Won Yong was elected as the society's first President (Aug. 28, 1976 - Dec. 31, 1977); the late Professor Kim Jung Hak was elected as the second President (Jan. 1, 1978 - Nov. 5, 1978); Professor Yoon Moo Byong was elected as the third President (Nov. 6, 1978 - Feb. 5, 1980); the late Professor Kim Won Yong was re-elected as the fourth and fifth President (Feb. 6, 1980 - Nov. 6, 1983); the late Professor Han Byung Sam was elected as the sixth and seventh president (Nov. 7, 1983 - Nov. 8, 1987) and during his tenure the society came to be firmly established, celebrating its tenth anniversary.

- Nov 6 (Sat) : The First Annual Conference of the Korean Archaeological Society is held at Soongsil University .

- Nov : The first issue of the 'Journal of the Korean Archaeological Society' is published.

- The 'Korean Archaeology Research Society Newsletter' is founded.

 

1984

- The 'Korean Archaeological Map' is published as the 'First Special Edition to the Journal of the Korean Archaeological Society'

 

1987

- The society is re-named as the Korean Archaeological Society

 

1989

- The 'Korean Archaeology Research Society Newsletter' is re-published as 'News of the Korean Archaeological Society'

 

1993

- 'News of the Korean Archaeological Society' is re-published as 'Korean Archaeology News'

 

1998

- Apr. 30: Submission guidelines for the 'Journal of the Korean Archaeological Society' are further developed.

 

2000

- May: The society homepage is established.

- Oct. 30: The first academic volume of the Korean Archaeological Society - 'An Archaeological Understanding of Gaya' - is published

 

2001

- Feb. 19: The final issue (Issue 4) of Korean Archaeology News' is published

 

2002

- Dec. 30: The second academic volume of the Korean Archaeological Society - 'The Establishment of Korean Farming Culture' - is published

- December: The Journal of the Korean Archaeological Society is considered as a candidate to join the 'List of Journals Approved by the Korea Research Foundation'.

 

2004

- Aug. 19: The Korean Archaeological Society hosts its first workshop - Workshop for the Development of Korean Archaeology (I): The Present State of Site Investigations and its Problemsat the Yeungnam University International Building with approximately 50 participants attending, including colleague members.

- Dec. 30: The Journal of the Korean Archaeological Society is added to the 'List of Journals Approved by the Korea Research Foundation'.

 

2005

- Feb. 16: The Korean Archaeological Society hosts its second workshop - Workshop for the Development of Korean Archaeology (II): The Improvement of Site Investigation Guidelines and a Reassessment of its Academic Possibilities- at Chungnam National University Museum with approximately 80 participants attending.

- Jun. 9: The Journal of the Korean Archaeological Society Digitalization Project begins, and the development of an internet server system commences

- Aug. 19: The Korean Archaeological Society hosts its third workshop - Workshop for the Development of Korean Archaeology (III): The Present State of Education in Korean Archaeology and its Problems- at Chungnam National University Museum with approximately 60 participants attending.

- Dec. 16: The society's new internet webpage is unveiled, and an archaeological publication database with search engine is set up.

 

2006

- Feb. 17: The Korean Archaeological Society hosts its fourth workshop - Workshop for the Development of Korean Archaeology (IV): Archaeology and the Public- at the National Museum.

- Mar. 30: The Journal of the Korean Archaeological Society is published in a new editing format, and with a new cover from Issue 58.

- May 27: The Journal of the Korean Archaeological Society is published quarterly (in March, June, September and December), rather than three times a year (April, August and December)

- Feb. 14: petition for relaxing policies regarding the standard area of surface surveys adopted

- May. 8: press conference and adoption of petition regarding proposal for improving investigations of cultural resources

requests were made at the Seoul Jeongdong Saesil Restaurant to remove irrational clauses from the proposal for improving investigations of cultural resources; furthermore, demands were made to severely reprimand the Director of the National Competitiveness Association, the Director of the Cultural Heritage Administration, and other public employees involved in designing the proposal

- May. 21: opinions regarding cultural resources surface survey and excavation guidelines and revisions collected; request made to provide justification for the reduction of surface surveys to 20-day periods, adjustments to attendance audits requested, and request to maintain the current rules for preventing corrupt hiring, etc.

 

2009
